Dobong Hotel Bay 204 - Staycation Spot in Seoul

For my one year anniversary with my boyfriend, we decided to skip the gifts and instead enjoy a quiet and relaxing staycation. I came across Hotel Bay 204 completely by chance (Instagram ad) and was hooked by the huge ass bathtub, since my boyfriend is very tall and most standard tubs are not large enough to fit the both of us.

Hotel Bay 204 is a 2-star hotel, a short walk away from Banghak subway station (line 1). It's not too far from the city center, but it's certainly a very... quiet neighborhood with not much going on. On the plus side, apparently from some rooms you can get a fantastic view of the nearby mountains.

I think it hasn't been long since the hotel was built, because there was an opening promotion going on. We went for the Suite Double and checked in on Sunday for 120,000 KRW, breakfast included.

The exterior and lobby are... a teeny bit suspicious-looking, to be honest. Very motelly, if you know the difference between motels and hotels in Korea. The staff did not seem too professional, either; when I gave them my name, they handed me my key right away without bothering to check for ID, and forgot the breakfast pass thingy until I asked for it first. So I didn't have my hopes up too high, but then we entered the room and I totally changed my mind.

The room is nice and bright, with a SUPER comfy bed, tiny couch, and a 60-inch TV.

Separate stalls for toilet and shower; toilet has a bidet and shower stall comes with a rainfall head, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and a disposable shower sponge.

The sink is located outside, with all the basic amenities provided including a bubble bath which wasn't very bubbly but smelled nice, like baby powder. The hair dryer is also nice and strong, something I would use at home.

They also provide phone chargers of all types, and a laptop computer on which I am writing this very post! Pre-installed is a program where you can watch movies, and lots of porn if you're into that kind of thing. Oh, and wi-fi is free (doesn't even require a password) and pretty fast.

Instant coffee and tea, with an electric kettle, two mugs, and a few paper cups.

Mini fridge with water bottles, bottled tea, and canned coffee. And best of all...

Just look at that gorgeous marble tub! It took forever to fill, obviously, but it was suuuuper spacious and I felt like I was at a public bath or something. You can also prop up your laptop on the side and watch Netflix while soaking in the warm water. Best of all, it fits 2-3 people and you can literally stretch your legs and move around with plenty of room to spare! Oh, and remember to shut all the blinds/curtains beforehand.

So for the Suite Double, they have two kinds of rooms: one has this huge tub and not the best view, while the other one has a normal-sized tub but a view of the mountains. Tub was a priority for me so I requested this room.

Breakfast is on the basement floor and consists of a modest buffet. If you'd like, you can request a hot bowl of instant noodles (very Korean). It's not the most delicious breakfast but it gets the job done.

All in all I had a very enjoyable experience at this hotel, most of which was a bunch of sleeping and binge-watching Modern Family. It's not an entirely fancy experience and the service isn't the best, but it was very clean and comfortable, and I would definitely stay here again. My boyfriend says everything outside the room is a bit terrible but everything inside is great, and I couldn't think of a better sentence to sum up my opinion of the place.

Last tip: There are no supermarkets/convenience stores around. We bought chips and drinks at Daiso and ordered pizza delivery for dinner. Make sure to prepare beforehand if you're the snacky type.

How to Karaoke in Korea: Step-By-Step Instructions

Korean/Japanese karaoke is completely different from the karaoke you might be accustomed to. For one thing, it's not done in a bar; it's an individual room you get to yourselves (the group you're with) so the singing is not done in public for everyone to see. It's popular among kids and teenagers as well as adults - so though we Koreans are used to singing sober, I've heard a lot of foreigners say they'd need to be tipsy at least, if they ever wanted to try such a thing. :D And of course, it's something you would never be able to do alone (though I have gone by myself a couple of times LOL). Now, if you can find a Korean who is willing to take you to karaoke, that's awesome. But what if you're with your friends visiting Korea, and you really want to go try, but you don't have anyone to guide you and you can't speak Korean? It would be a complete shame for you not to experience one of the ultimate Korean pastimes before you go! Even if you...

"Good Morning S" (굿모닝에스) Korean Laxative is Seriously Awesome

It's time for some dirty talk - literally dirty, as in poop. So constipation is something I've been dealing with since birth. My mom would tell me that when I was a baby, she had to dig out my poop with a cotton swab because it always seemed stuck halfway. While my brother would effortlessly shoot out copious amounts of poop that sometimes even clogged the toilet from its tremendous amounts and thickness; I'd sit for long, excruciating minutes, with my red little face scrunched up in pain, failing to do the same. I don't think it changed much as I grew older. Daily bowel movement, or even regular bowel movement, is not something I can relate to. I envy with a passion those lucky bastards who wake up every morning and can take a successful dump each time. Me, I'm always counting the last time I went to the bathroom; calculating, worrying, trying to find some sort of permanent solution. I've tried plenty of home remedies: sweet potatoes, all sorts of vegetable...

Brazilian Wax in Korea at [Beauty Friends Gangnam]

A girl's first bikini wax, let alone Brazilian, can be quite daunting. If you're well aware of the sensations from plucking your eyebrows, or have tried strip waxing on safer areas like the legs or arms, you would surely be intimidated by the mere thought of having that exact sharp and prickly pain brought upon your most intimate area, where the skin is much thinner and super sensitive. That being said, I have no idea what I was thinking when I went for the all-nude Brazilian wax instead of going for standard bikini on my first try. But anyhow, since I've got my first experience out of the way, it doesn't seem like such a big deal.
