I have absolutely no intention to be a beauty blogger; I rarely see any variety in my makeup routine, and I'm the type of gal that prefers function and comfort over looks any day. Sure, it's nice to sometimes dress up and attempt to look nice, but when I try, I usually end up feeling quite awkward and find myself wanting to go back home, wipe my face clean, change into sweatpants and feel normal again.
That being said, though, makeup is occasionally fun. At least once or twice a week I go to work without nothing but moisturizer on, just to let my skin breathe. But when I do put on makeup, which is actually the majority of the time, I enjoy the different steps I need to take to slowly create a face, the look that will represent who I am for the day. And though I say this, the whole process for me only takes about 15 minutes total, so it's not exactly a sacred daily ritual like it seems to be for some girls.
Now, there was a time a couple of years ago when I first got into makeup, and would spend hours on YouTube watching tutorials and marveling at how many beautiful women there were out in the world. Over the first few months I spent a good amount of money on cosmetics (and discovered the wonders of eye shadow, liquid eyeliner, lipstick, and bronzer), and tried several makeup products, none of which I found disappointing. I'm really not picky when it comes to choosing products, which is another reason I should not review or write about cosmetics. I can't feel the difference; they're all nice and feel the same to me.
The only exception is this foundation that I've been using for a year now. Everything else is all the same to me; you can get me any mascara, or shadow or lipstick or whatever, and I'll probably use it without thinking. I was like this for foundation as well, until I came across Kate Powderless Liquid, purchased at Olive Young. The only reason I bought this in the first place was because it was the only product I could find that had a dark color. I was looking for a new foundation before backpacking in S.E.A and Europe, and I knew I was going to get super tan, so I needed something I could mix with my regular shade for my to-be sun-kissed skin. Korean BB creams and foundations are way too light for me, so I knew I would have to resort to foreign brands (Kate is Japanese). My normal shade is OC-D, but I bought OC-G to mix after my skin would get darker.
All shades are in the same exact container, and you can't tell them apart unless you check the small print on the bottom, which can get pretty annoying. Since I own two different shades and don't want to get confused, I indicated the shade on the side of the container with a marker and taped over the writing so it wouldn't fade. Yesterday, I bought OC-C, which is lighter shade than I normally use because it was the only one left in stock while it was on sale. I'm thinking I'll just mix it with what's left of OC-D and I should be ok (as I said, I'm really not picky). But first I want to show what the foundation is actually like, using OC-D as an example.
The shade looks a bit darker than my skin, but that's because this is the underside of my arm, which is generally lighter than the rest of my body. For my face, this shade is just right and very natural.
As soon as I apply this to my skin, the foundation already feels very matte. The advertisement says that the liquid turns into a powder within 15 seconds, which I find to be completely true. It's very light, and soon enough it turns a bit brighter and absorbs itself, turning dry. As a result, my skin looks totally natural, just with a bit of extra cover.
Ever since I started using this product, I found no need to use a separate powder to set my foundation. This won't give you that dewy glow that most Koreans are after, but for oily skin and for humid climates I think there couldn't be a better option. In the summer, I can just mix it with a drop of OC-G and get the tanned shade I need. And I don't know whether it's because I've been using two different shades or because I just don't use a lot of foundation to begin with, but it's been almost a year since I bought my first container and I still have a decent amount left. This is a super easy foundation, and I've been recommending it to everyone I know. I have a feeling I won't be much interested in trying anything else for a while. :)
