Original Chicago Pizza & Pub at Gangnam

For some reason, I'd never tried Chicago-style pizza before. I'd seen it and heard of it countless times, but never got round to actually trying it until yesterday. It was a spur-of-the-moment decision; I noticed a pizza place while I was on my way to have Mexican food, noticed a long line of people waiting for a seat, and decided I needed to come back to try for myself. So I researched other blog posts about it, learned that you couldn't make any prior reservations, and so raced over after work to Gangnam station with my colleague.

We actually got confused - the one I saw was in the CGV alleyway, but the one my map told me was behind Lotte Cinema. I'm still not sure whether it's the same chain, but we went to the one on the map and decided they'd probably taste similar anyway.

We arrived about 10 minutes before 7, while it was still light outside. Luckily there were a few seats available, but about an hour later people were lined up all the way to the first floor.

The restaurant was spacious and had an amicable atmosphere. Not sure what Frida Kahlo was doing there, but she gave the place a more artsy vibe which I liked. We were seated by the window, where we could see all the way down to the big street with Gangnam station. Being the weakling that I am, I felt cold after a few minutes even though it was nearly summer weather. I asked the waitress if I could close the window; instead, she brought us some cute fuzzy blankets! Impressive.

We were waiting for two more colleagues to arrive, but they were running way later then planned. So for our er... appetizer, we ordered a huge plate of BBQ fries which cost 17,000 won, and a set of dipping sauces for an extra 2,000.

The quality of the fries were sort of sad and disappointing for its price, and not much different from what you would get at McDonald's or any other fast food chain. The toppings (which included cilantro!) were interesting enough: fries with barbecue sauce was definitely a first for me, which I found to be surprisingly delicious. The sauces were sweet corn, something I don't remember but which was my favorite, and some variation of nacho cheese.

Once we cleared this huge platter, our other colleagues arrived, along with the pizza we'd ordered in advance. Since there were no fries left, they ordered their own side dish, a cobb salad.

And now for the pizza!!!

I have to say, it was a LOT of cheese. We ordered one topping only (pepperoni), which brought the price of the 12-inch pizza to 46,000 won. Which I guess is not cheap, but not ridiculously expensive either. It was chewy and deep and cheesy and everything I had imagined over the years. Lots of tomato sauce going on, too. The crust part was a bit bland, so I left it out for my second slice.

After half a platter of fries and two slices of pizza, I was stuffed to the brim. It was definitely a hearty and super yummy meal, but I don't think I'll be craving pizza for a while now!!!

How to Karaoke in Korea: Step-By-Step Instructions

Korean/Japanese karaoke is completely different from the karaoke you might be accustomed to. For one thing, it's not done in a bar; it's an individual room you get to yourselves (the group you're with) so the singing is not done in public for everyone to see. It's popular among kids and teenagers as well as adults - so though we Koreans are used to singing sober, I've heard a lot of foreigners say they'd need to be tipsy at least, if they ever wanted to try such a thing. :D And of course, it's something you would never be able to do alone (though I have gone by myself a couple of times LOL). Now, if you can find a Korean who is willing to take you to karaoke, that's awesome. But what if you're with your friends visiting Korea, and you really want to go try, but you don't have anyone to guide you and you can't speak Korean? It would be a complete shame for you not to experience one of the ultimate Korean pastimes before you go! Even if you...

"Good Morning S" (굿모닝에스) Korean Laxative is Seriously Awesome

It's time for some dirty talk - literally dirty, as in poop. So constipation is something I've been dealing with since birth. My mom would tell me that when I was a baby, she had to dig out my poop with a cotton swab because it always seemed stuck halfway. While my brother would effortlessly shoot out copious amounts of poop that sometimes even clogged the toilet from its tremendous amounts and thickness; I'd sit for long, excruciating minutes, with my red little face scrunched up in pain, failing to do the same. I don't think it changed much as I grew older. Daily bowel movement, or even regular bowel movement, is not something I can relate to. I envy with a passion those lucky bastards who wake up every morning and can take a successful dump each time. Me, I'm always counting the last time I went to the bathroom; calculating, worrying, trying to find some sort of permanent solution. I've tried plenty of home remedies: sweet potatoes, all sorts of vegetable...

Brazilian Wax in Korea at [Beauty Friends Gangnam]

A girl's first bikini wax, let alone Brazilian, can be quite daunting. If you're well aware of the sensations from plucking your eyebrows, or have tried strip waxing on safer areas like the legs or arms, you would surely be intimidated by the mere thought of having that exact sharp and prickly pain brought upon your most intimate area, where the skin is much thinner and super sensitive. That being said, I have no idea what I was thinking when I went for the all-nude Brazilian wax instead of going for standard bikini on my first try. But anyhow, since I've got my first experience out of the way, it doesn't seem like such a big deal.
