Here's a fun date idea for friends, family, lovers, just about anyone! I heard about this hanbok studio from my best friend, who had wanted to go for years, and made the reservations to take her for her birthday. The staff can all speak Chinese and probably English too since it's a big tourist attraction, so foreigners are more than welcome. :D
There are two types of photos you can take at this place: professional studio photos and regular selfies - you can even borrow selfie sticks from the counter, how considerate is that?! The third floor is full of different sets and props that go well with the hanbok - traditional Korean dress - and cheesy fake background sounds to make the experience more authentic... like roosters crowing and peasants working and stuff. -_-
Anyway, when you first arrive you're presented with a menu full of different options. You can opt for different types of hanbok, hairstyles, makeup, all at additional prices of course. I think the cheapest option is renting a regular hanbok and just selfies (no professional shoots), but you still want to get the most of the experience, wouldn't you? My friend and I decided on the nicer hanbok and hairstyles, no makeup since we could do that ourselves, one professional photo together and one individual. This option cost 55,000 KRW per person, which seemed a bit expensive at first but I decided it was worth it in the end.
The professional photos were okay, and perhaps not really worth the money. They give you little wallet sized photos and a paper album to keep. These are good souvenirs, but the selfies were the best part. Before we entered the selfie zone, some assistants did our hair and helped us change into the hanbok we chose. Extra accessories such as hats and whatnot are free to use.
It was a blast pretending like we were filming Korean movies, acting all dramatic and cracking up while looking through all the pictures we took. Just a few out of the gazillion:
Directions (Insadong and Myeongdong) and reservations are all available on their website, which has additional pages in English, Japanese, Chinese, and Malay: click here.
